Orange and Passionfruit Jelly

This Orange and Passionfruit jelly recipe is a simple way to make real jelly/gello using fresh orange juice and the added deliciousness of fresh passionfruit. This jelly is one dessert that my beloved often asks me to make.

The jelly bought at the supermarket is chock-full of artificial colours, flavours, preservatives, and refined sugar and devoid of any real nutritional value. So grab some fresh oranges and make your own. You can also make some Vitamin C Gummies in much the same way.

 

Buying and Cooking Tips

Because I use a lot of gelatine and most of the supermarket gelatine has a preservative in it, I buy organic grass-fed gelatine in 500g bags from here.

If you are not a fan of passionfruit, you can substitute cut up pieces of most fruits. Though be careful of papaya or paw paw, mango, kiwi fruit, and pineapple. Fresh pieces of these fruits have enzymes that prevent the jelly from setting correctly. However, heating the fruit in the juice usually denatures the enzymes, thus allowing the jelly to set.

Adding the gelatine to a boiling liquid will also prevent the gelatine from setting. That is why the juice is removed from the heat before sprinkling in the gelatine.
